Ms.Gurleen Chopra,
I read your open letter addressed to all the producers out there and I decided to reply to you only because you signed off calling your letter a friendly-discussion. To begin with, I would like to clearly state that all these thoughts and opinion are my own and I can’t and won’t talk on behalf of any other producer or film.
Marketing is a very vast field of which movie marketing is a small portion. With the advancing times, movie marketing in India and around the world is growing and blending smoothly with PR. My recent film ‘Game Over’ has a unique and strong storyline. I have followed the recent trends and promoted the film on varied media. The steamy scene you’re referring to in your letter is very much a part of the film and wasn’t leaked but released as a teaser with contemporary packaging. You will know this as you are a part of this film.
It is a known fact that trailers and teasers that showcase the important glimpses of the film are the sole pursuers for the film. These snippets attract the moviegoers and help them decide whether they wish to watch a film or not. This is the most basic form of marketing a movie.
What is beside the point is that ‘Game Over’ has done exceedingly well for its genre of films and has been able to get tremendous viewer support and compliments. I was very clear about my targeted audience when I drafted the script and wished that the film should reach to them. The teaser was just an exercise to confirm that only targeted audience should watch and enjoy the film. I make films because it’s my passion to create entertaining stories to tell my audience. This should be most movie makers’ agenda too. All else comes later.
